2008 Viognier
|
Estate grown at our Sunny View Vineyard in the southeastern portion of the Russian River Valley, this Viognier is a distinctive wine with a perfume of honeysuckle, jasmine and other floral tones. To showcase the distinctive floral aromas and flavors of Viognier, we ferment and age our Viognier in stainless steel to not impart any additional oak flavors. Additionally, the wine does not undergo malolactic fermentation so that it will fully retain its natural acidity and fruit flavors. The result is a crisp, racey, lean-styled, elegant wine with a distinctive perfume and flavors. |

| Vineyard Notes: | The grapes are sourced from Sunny View, an estate vineyard located to the south of our winery on Guerneville Road. The vines were planted in 1999 as an experimental block to explore various Syrah production techniques such as copigmentation with Viognier. As the vineyard matured, grapes were sold to other wineries. In 2007 and 2008, we were fortunate to have a bit of extra fruit to allow us to produce our own bottling of estate grown Viognier |
| Winemakers Notes: | After the grapes were harvested, they were gently whole cluster pressed in a membrane press for more than three hours. This slow processing avoids release of astringent tannin components, producing the highest quality juice. The juice was then slowly fermented in a stainless steel tank at 50 degrees F for approximately 26 days. Malolactic fermentation was not allowed to capture and retain the classic fruit and floral aromas. Once fermented to complete dryness, the wine was allowed to age in stainless steel for 9 months with monthly lees stirring. |
